Ruth Heck Obituary

RUTH HECK Ruth Marie Heck, 77, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 15, 2010. She was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Wausau, Wis., where she grew up, and was a 45-year resident of Las Vegas. Ruth met her husband, William Heck, and lived in Texas, New Mexico, California, and Las Vegas, where she raised her five children. A homemaker and self-employed seamstress, Ruth gave generously of herself and her time to family and friends. She sewed, knitted, crocheted and redid upholstery on furniture and cars. She loved to garden and was a voracious reader. An avid outdoorswoman, she could out-fish anyone and won many awards in trapshooting. After the early deaths of her husband, William Randall, and son, William Joseph, she joined the groups Parents Without Partners and the Senior Tripsters. She loved being "grammy" to her grandchildren! A trip to Alaska on a cruise was a benchmark in her life. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rose Schaetzl; brother, William Joseph Schaetzl; sister, Doris Schaetzl of Wausau; husband, William Randall Heck; and son, William Joseph Heck of Las Vegas. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Eugene) Weinstein, Julie (William) Machette, Teresa (Jack) Waslesky and Jennifer (Bob) DeGutes, all of Las Vegas; and grandchildren, Nathalie Weinstein of Portland, Ore., Jessica Waslesky, Gaby Machette, Brett and Hanna DeGutes, all of Las Vegas. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123, (702) 464-8500.

Dearest Debbie, Cindy and I want to give to you and your family our deepest condolences for the lose of you mother Ruth. Having known Ruth all these years we share your loss. Ruth's back yard years ago was a gardeners dream, all the pepper and tomato plants she would grow for her homemade chili. It was in her yard the first time I saw strawberry plants grow and really fruit in Las Vegas. Cindy and I wish you ,Gene, Nathalie and all of you families well. All Of our Love, Jim & Cindy.

My name is Trina Lynn Rose and I am the daughter of Jan Heck. I remember Aunt Ruth as being a fun loving and full of life person. I remember being able to come over and have sleep overs with "Feffer" and have fond memories of being around my mother's side of the family. I regret that my family moved so far away but take comfort in knowing that we are thinking of you and are holding you all in our prayers. She is walking with the angels now. My love to all. Trina
