Thelma Howell Obituary

THELMA HOWELL Thelma Blanche Morrisett Howell, precious daughter, dedicated wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, attentive great-grandmother, favorite aunt and special sister, transcended her earthly estate Dec. 30, 2010, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She attained the age of 91 years and didn't want to leave her family even then. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Howell Fabbi; son-in-law, P. Kent Fabbi; four grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Fabbi, Jason Howell Fabbi, Julianne Fabbi Parmenter (Scott Donald Parmenter) and Joseph Kent Fabbi; and four great-grandchildren, Caden Howell Fabbi, Jensyn Jolie Farmer, Mariella Parmenter and Paisley Anne Parmenter. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Charles Edward Howell Jr., 22 years ago, after 51 years of marriage; her parents, Grace Edna Moffitt and Oda Lee Morrisett; and her two brothers, O.L. Morrisett and Donald Dean Morrisett. Thelma was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Crescent, Okla., and was raised on a farm in this small farming/ranching community. She graduated high school in 1937 and married Chuck Jan. 7, 1938. Thelma's favorite calling in life was raising her daughter, Suzanne. From June 1956 until July 1974, when Suzanne married, Thelma dedicated her whole self, time and talents to being the best mother she could possibly be, and she was. For 16 years, she worked as head of new accounts at Valley Bank of Nevada, which she greatly enjoyed. She was active in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and in a singing group, the Harmonettes, for many years. She loved attending her church, First Presbyterian, when she was able. Thelma was a vibrant, kind, gentle and positive woman and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed! Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, both at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd.

I am very sad about Thelma's passing. She was always Mrs. Howell to me. Since i was a little girl, Thelma was like a second mother to me. I would walk to Sue's house on the way to Rex Bell Elementary School, and later to take the bus to Cashman Junior High. Thelma would comb my hair. I have so many memories of growing up with Thelma and Chuck, from driving to Crescent, Oklahoma, to cleaning their house with Sue (I have no idea why i did that!!!) to going to Burger King for my very first Whopper and even to Taco Bell for the first time. She and I had a hilarious moment when she was driving me to my parent's house about 20 years ago and i had to use the bathroom RIGHT NOW. Thelma zoomed to the nearest fast food restaurant without blinking an eye. We laughed so hard. I visited Thelma at her nursing home whenever i came to town and though she didn't remember me, she smiled politely when i told her stories about growing up with her and Sue and Chuck. I will miss her but she will live in my heart and mind forever. Lynn Feldman Weiss

Dear Sue and family--I'm so sorry to read of your mother's passing. She was a wonderful woman. She was so gracious and poised and elegant. You all took such good care of her and dedicated your lives to her the way she dedicated her life to you.
