WILLIAM GOFF Obituary

CAPT. WILLIAM GOFF JR. U.S. Navy, Retired Capt. William G "Bill" Goff Jr., of Las Vegas, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice Dec. 24, 2013, due to complications from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Bill was born in 1941, in Somers Point, N.J., and was a long-time resident of Las Vegas, where he was involved in commercial real estate and private equity investment. Bill created several companies including, Anchor Development, Goff Properties and Goff Ventures. In an interview by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Bill explained the philosophy he lived by, "People First." He stated you have to be sensitive to people's needs, you have to be able to understand how you can help them and you need to make a conscious effort to do so. After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in aeronautical engineering, Bill served as a Navy fighter pilot in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Roosevelt. He joined Delta Airlines as a pilot in 1969, retiring after 32 years as an international check pilot on the MD-11. While flying for Delta, he maintained his status as a fighter pilot in the reserves and was commanding officer of a Navy "Top Gun" squadron at Miramar Naval Air Station, where he completed his 30-year U.S. Navy career. Bill was an active member of Daedalians, Rotary and Vegas Valley Angels. Bill and his wife, Karen, have been dedicated supporters of local animal rescue organizations and Guide Dogs for the Blind. Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Zick Goff; sister, Kathy Campbell; and niece, Kelly Shephard. No services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Animal Foundation of Las Vegas or Best Friends Animal Society.

Bill and I were stationed together at COMFAIRNORFOLK in Virginia Beach in the late 60's. Although I haven't seen him since then, I remember him as a very high-energy guy and that he was a lot of fun to be around. He also threw very good parties, as I recall. A really good guy, very sad to hear he is gone.

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by "doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God."

I believe those who knew Bill Goff would unanimously agree that the statements above characterize Bill's life. As an Auburn University Graduate, Bill would be flashing that endearing smile - knowing that he had to memorize the above "Auburn University Creed" by heart in 1959 as a freshman!

To some of us, Bill was like a father to some a brother, to many a friend. To Janice and I he was all of those and a fellow Auburn Alumni, War Eagle! Godspeed Bill!

This is a great loss. Bill was a principal supporter and founding board member of Impact Sports Technolgies, of which I am president. Without him we would have never gotten off the ground. He led a full and adventurous life from combat veteran to local business leader and was a Man in Full. My wife and I are proud to say we knew him and he will be sorely missed.
