Charles "Phil" Hamel

1940 - 2022

Charles "Phil" Hamel, age 82, passed away on June 28, 2022. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 18, 1940 to his late parents Aurel and Mary Hamel. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan; loving children: Mike (Donna), David; grandchildren: Aaron, Sara (Gabe) Moss; sister: Charlotte Johns; and many nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his seven siblings. He worked as a Public Safety Officer for the city of Grosse Pointe Woods for 32 years; after retirement, he worked for 10 years at Wholesale Tool Company and the Edsel Ford Estate for 10 years. Phil was an Army Veteran and a member of the Hudson Motor Car Company Home Chapter, the VMCCA Lakeside Chapter, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of the Police Grosse Pointe Lodge 102, where he held many offices. He was an avid vintage car enthusiast, a Mr. Fix-It, a Red Wing fan, and was involved with the Boy Scouts Special Troop 390. Phil also enjoyed his many traveling escapades with Joan.
