Diana Layer Obituary

Diana (Diane) Lynn Layer (Ballabina) passed away on June 1st, 2021 at the age of 51 in Traverse City, Michigan after a battle with cancer. Diane was born July 16, 1969 in Warren, Michigan to the late Edward and Colleen Ballabina. She was the devoted wife of Dale Layer for 30 years. Loving mother to Karen, Vincent, and Christine Layer. Beloved sister to Delores (Kenneth) Martin, Mary (Michael) Griffith, Tina (Doug) Green, Edward Ballabina, and the late Richard Moore. Cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Diane was a caretaker by nature, always lending an open ear to anyone who needed to talk. This was her gift. No matter your background, whether you were a stranger on the street, or one of her best friends, she had the wonderful ability to always be there for a person and listen to their story. She loved the simple things in life, such as spending time with her family and three dogs. Diane liked to write and was most at peace when she was surrounded by nature at her home in Higgins Lake, Michigan. She loved watching Jeopardy and always liked to expand her mind in any way she could. Diane liked to challenge herself to learn new things and never gave up the opportunity to do so. She raised three small children while pursuing an education, something that was very important to her to accomplish. She graduated with honors in 2009. Through it all, Diane always managed to be a great wife, mom, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be severely missed. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Donations in Diane's name can be made out to the Michigan Humane Society or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

So sorry to hear of Diane's passing. I loved how she and her siblings were so close with my cousin Gail and Aunt Faye. I can't imagine the trail of broken hearts due to the loss of such a kind soul. I hope her memory provides solace during this sad time.

Diana you’re not just my friend but my beautiful sister. You’re an amazing person with a heart of gold. You were always there for me in good times and in bad. Please take good care of my baby Brianna and tell her I love and miss her lots. You and Brianna are going to do amazing work with Heavenly Father. You’re at peace now my sweet Angel!!My heart is broken in so many pieces, it hurts so bad not to pic up the phone to call you and just laugh. I love you forever and ever and always! Until we meet again. RIP sweet Angel!
