John "Jack" Edward Haley, 87, of Shelby Township, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2022 at Beaumont Hospital, Troy. He was born in Detroit to the late Vincent and Margaret E. (Bessie) Haley on October 12, 1934. He grew up on the East side of Detroit near Gratiot and 6 Mile Road, attended Assumption Grotto School and graduated from St. Joseph's High School near the Eastern Market. In his early years, Jack spent most of his summers and weekends with family and friends in Emmett. He married Mary Joanne Keegan of Emmett on October 12, 1963 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary Joanne Haley of 59 years are his two brothers, Gene Haley and Jim (Chris) Haley both residents of Emmett; sister-in-law, Barbara Sullivan of Farmington Hills; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Mike Sullivan, Jack Keegan, and Jerry Keegan; sisters-in-law, Judy Keegan and Betty Haley; niece, Kelly Keegan; nephew, Brian Keegan; and a grand-nephew, Danny Haley.
Jack was a loyal Ford Motor Company employee for over 30 years and cars were his passion. Tool and die was his trade and all things technical was his craft. A loving memory of Jack was his early morning visits to many of his friends as he returned home from work. He would bring a beautiful array of "donuts" weekly for all to enjoy and the children would be so excited to see him come. They called him "Jackie Donuts." His kindness was always on display in a simple, loving and thoughtful way. Also, he will be remembered for his love of all things Irish. Come St. Patrick's Day, you would most definitely find Jack marching proudly down Woodward Ave. in Detroit with his wife Joanne and many of his lifelong friends and family. His fun would continue onto Emmett with more Irish celebrations.
A memorial mass will be celebrated in Jack's honor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett, on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. Father Tom Kuehnemund, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-Kenockee Township Cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Jack's charities of choice would most likely be "Our Lady of Mt. Carmel" parish in Emmett, the "Irish Pallotine Fathers" of Wyandotte, or the "Leaden Dogs for the Blind" in Rochester.
