Macon, GA- Mr. Arnold S. Blum,life-long resident of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017. He was born on April 21,1922, the son of Arie Isidore and Madeleine Binswanger Blum. He graduated from Lanier High School and, as a member of the golf team, won the state high school golf championships in 1937 and 1939. As a member of the University of Georgia golf team, Arnold won the SEC championship in 1941. During an illustrious amateur career, he won the Southeastern Amateur 3 times, the Georgia Amateur 5 times, and the Southern amateur twice. Mr Blum was a member of the victorious 1957 U.S. Walker Cup Team. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur sixteen times, reaching the quarter-finals twice. He played in the Masters' Tournament five times, finishing in the top 24 in 1952. From 1960-61, Mr Blum served as president of the Georgia State Golf Association. He also served as board member of the GSGA and the Southern Golf Association. Mr. Blum was selected as a member of the 1989 inaugural class of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and is a member of the Southern Golf Association Hall of Fame.
Mr. Blum was the owner of Central Bedding Company, which was founded by his father. He was a past president of the Macon Rotary Club. He was a member of Idle Hour Country Club, where the Board of Directors named The Arnold Blum Golf Learning Center in his honor. He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church and a former member of Temple Beth Israel. Mr. Blum was a Captain in the 79th Division of the United States Army, serving in World War II, and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Blum is survived by his wife, Georgann Dessau Blum of Macon; daughters, Stella Blum Cartwright of Macon, Madeleine Blum of Sewanee, Tennessee, Vicki Blum Greene and her husband, Buddy, of Brentwood , Tennessee; son, Arnold Blum, Jr. of Macon; five grandchildren, Emily Cartwright Barton and her husband Chip, Sarah Cartwright Adams and her husband Dennis, Erin Greene Loofbourrow and her husband Ross, Georganna Greene and Nina Claire Blum; four great -grandchildren, Susanna Adams, Sarah Kate Barton, Benjamin Barton and Ellie Adams; and brother Larry Blum and his wife Barbara of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Vineville United Methodist Church . Dr. Jimmy Asbell and Dr. William Oliver will officiate. Friends are invited to visit the family on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Hart's at the Cupola. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. Charitable donations may be made to The Macon Symphony Orchestra, 400 Poplar Street, Macon, Ga, 31201, Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Ave., Macon, Ga. 31204, or the charity of choice.

I met Arnold through a great friend, Adrian Gnam, at a Macon symphony party. Arnold and I spoke for 2 hours about golf and life. He was a delightful man, who I will always remember. I am sure that he is playing well and making heaven, a little bit better!
