I didn't know Mr. Barnette had gone to be with the Lord a few months ago and please accept our thoughts and prayers for you all. I lost my dad BULLET Rowland last April as well due to the same illness. It's a very difficult thing to go through and so hard at times. As a youngster I remember running with my dad and the football players from the locker room to the side line at Porter Stadium through the band music, that was special. As a member of the finest JROTC program in the country and a GOLDEN BOOT, it was an honor to here the band play the National Anthem at our parades and special events. My dad knew Bob very well and they were always staples either on the field, in the stands or on the side line. Please know you all are in our hearts. GO BIG ORANGE!

Isn't it funny how God always has a strategic plan in order. I believe all of us who was under his direction was blessed to have known him. The things he practiced and said it has been and still is inspirational to me. When I think of Mr. Barnette I think about how awesome of a musician, he was and how he wanted to see his students succeed. Many may consider this as being mean, I can recall him having me to stand up and look down the section or should I say look up the section of trumpet players. Then, In Front of the whole band he asks me, son are you going to always be the (tail ) of the group. You all can imagine how this made me feel, but I realize afterwards that he saw the potential in me. That year I came from last chair 3rd to 1st Chair first. From that point on Mr. Barnette has been one of the greatest mentor in my life. To the family, he was honored by many, but invited in by God. My deepest condolences Bobby Edwards.

I cannot express in words how much of an impact Mr. B was on the lives of so many students that attended Lanier/Central High School. I was a member of the choir and remember the times when the band and choir would have a concert, and the passion for music and to spread his love for music and to educate others to love and appreciate music as much as he did. The world is a better place because of Bob Barnette. RIP Mr. B.

I am so sorry for your lost. I can truly say that I understand your pain and the path from where you've come as you dealt with the dementia of your loved one.On March 26, I lost my dad to dementia. He fought the disease for 20 years. After his death, I found comfort in knowing that my dad is now in a better place and does not have to endure the illness anymore. It is the same for Mr Barnette. TO THE FAMILY OF BOB R. BARNETTE
The untimely death of Bob was received with much sadness. Please accept my personal and sincere condolences.
Bob will be profoundly missed and our heart aches at our loss, but his legacy will always be with us.
So, at the end of that last tour of duty and hearing the sound of that final all aboard' song we should all come to realize that a life lived believing, giving, caring and loving your family is the only life that really matters.
May the hope found in Gods' word out weigh the grief the family feels? Please know that I am sadden by his departure but blessed with the fact of knowing Heaven has just gained another angel.
Gone from our eyes, but not forgotten in our hearts.

Bob dedicated his life to family, teaching, and performing outstanding music. This passion required discipline and dedication. His life was fullfilled by being hired as music director at his almamater "LANIER", and his own creation the Sugarbear band. I appreciated our personal and family friendship as Bob was surely "one of a kind" and will be missed by many.
His main love was family especially Leiza and grandchildren, wife Annette, sugarbear band, macon symphony, golf,Lanier/Central High school, and his church. His passion for being the best was tested during State festival competition each year where he spent every hour of every day in preparation. where he developed a condition of unapproachable until the final goal of outstanding was reached. I warned faculty and students that during that period that he had "festivalitis" and he was not to be disturbed.
He was a super human being in so many ways and was also a close personal friend and confident about his personal life with me. I was his big brother in many ways. He loved my family and supported each of us.Martha, all of my family, and I will miss him.

I will never forget playing in the Sugar Bear Band my senior year at Lanier High School. Mr Barnette needed a glockenspiel player, and he turned me loose with it to teach myself how to play this keyboard-turned-sideways. What a wonderful year I spent under his direction!

I'm so honored to have been part of this man's life. The choice that was made to bring me on the team AS a sugar bear sincerely changed my life so many fond memories of my time as part of the sugar bear band as a drill team member. As I was at Disney World this weekend and so so many band members from across the country I couldn't help but get a little teary-eyed remembering the great times we had

As one of the original Sugar Bears, I am saddened to hear of his passing. Bob was a great motivator and leader. He told us that we were great and we believed him. Then we did our best to live up to his expectations. His influence will live on for a long time to come. The last time I saw him, he still remembered me and still treated me like a friend. Annette we have lost one of the greats of all time. I can see Bob in the back of the Ministry Center early on Sunday mornings listening to the praise band practice. He was always so complimentary and gracious. It was intimidating to be up there playing bass while the best bass player I have ever known was watching and listening! I will miss him. My prayers are with you.
