WESTMINSTER, S.C.
Westminster- Charles "Bobby" R. Williams, Jr., 51, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
A native of Oconee County, he was the son of Geneva Miles Williams of Westminster and the late Charles R. Williams, Sr., and was the owner and operator of G and B Enterprises. Mr. Williams was a 1981 graduate from Westminster High School and of Tri-County Technical College in 1986. He joined the Westminster Fire Department in June, 1978. Bobby was appointed Oconee Rural Fire Commissioner in 1988 where he served till 2005 then was Chairman for six years. He was a charter member of Oconee Hazmat Team organized in 1991 where he served as the Assistant Chief till 1993 until named Chief. He was elected in 2003 to the Westminster City Council and served until 2013; was a member of the Mayor Pro Team in 2006, Info Commission for Oconee County City Chairman in 2011, and served on the Oconee Capital Project Commission in 2011. He also was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Lisa Pitts Williams of Westminster; and his son, Charlie Williams of the home.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2014 at Westminster Baptist Church. The body will lie in state from Noon-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens with full Fireman Honors.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Sandifer Funeral Home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Charlie Williams' Educational Fund, C/O Sandifer Funeral Home, PO Box 69, Westminster, S.C. 29693.
