Cyler Garner Obituary
March 23, 1935 - March 31, 2022
Gordon, Georgia - The death of Dr. Cyler Duggan Garner, M.D. age 87, occurred Thursday, March 31, 2022, in a Macon Hospital. Funeral Services were held on Saturday April 2, 2022, at 2:00 O'clock from the Gordon First Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Marie Baptist Church Cemetery in Dublin.
Dr. Garner was a native of Dublin was born March 23, 1935, to Thomas Chapel Garner and Alma Lizzie NeSmith Garner. He was a graduate of Mercer University and The Medical College of Georgia and was a physician for over 61 years in Gordon. He served as Mayor of Gordon for 33 years and he served as president of the American Medical Assoc, and the Georgia Medical Assoc. Dr. Garner was a member of the State Board of Health, faculty and board member of the Mercer University School of Medicine and served as Medical Examiner for Wilkinson and Twiggs Counties for many years. He was a member of the Gordon Masonic Lodge # 240 and a member and deacon of the Gordon First Baptist Church. He recently was attending the Gordon United Methodist Church. Dr. Garner was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Baggett Garner; and son, Cyler Duggan Garner, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Garner Poole (Tommy Brown) of Gordon; daughter-in-law, Tamara Garner of Cartersville; six grandchildren; Cyler Duggan Garner, III (Marika), Matthew Poole, Wesley Garner, (Lindsey), Cyler G. Poole, (Alexis), Christina Garner, and Conner Poole; three great- grandchildren; Vivian Garner, Cylee Garner, and Hunter Duggan Garner; two brothers; Javan Garner of Dublin, and Aaron Garner of Conyers; brother-in-law, David Baggett; and sister-in-law, Sue Tarpley (Marvin) all of Dublin; special family, Bethany Brown, Travarious Veal, Ginger Hipp and Ashley Peavy.
Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Camellia Society, Gordon First Baptist Church, or the Gordon United Methodist Church.
