Dernell Stenson Obituary

Dernell Renauld Stenson -LAGRANGE - Dernell Renauld Stenson, 25, of 205 Cherry Street in Lagrange, Georgia died Wednesday, in Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral Services will be at 11A.M., Monday, November 10, 2003 at First baptist Church on the Square, 100 broad Street, Lagrange. The Reverend Marshell Stenson will officiate with interment in the Restlawn Memory Gardens. -Mr. Stenson, born June 17, 1978, was the son of Mrs.. Cora Stenson and the late Rev. James Edward Stenson, Sr. He was a 1996 graduate of Lagrange High School where he excelled scholastically and athletically. He was voted best all around in his senior class, won the 1996 Duncan Award for baseball, was the 1996 MostValuable Player in the IP baseball Classic in 1996, won the Slugger Award and was the 1994 Granger MostValuable Player and was voted best Pitcher in 1994. He was the 1994 Granger Football Player and was voted best Lineman in 1994 and 1995. He was third round draft in Minor League baseball at the age of 18, with the Boston Red Sox organization and astayed with tem until the spring of 2003, moving to the Major Leaugues shortly thereafter. -Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Cora Stenson; three brohters, James and Beverly Stenson,Thomas Nelson Stenson, and Richard Bernard Stenson; four sisters, Sherry Larose Stenson, Sheila and Dennis Prather, Marian and Rawlin Tate and Liilian and Lige Wallace; and a number of nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins; local survivors include his uncle and aunt, Rev. and Mrs, Marshell Stenson of Macon. -The family will be at their residence. -The Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

To the family of Dernell Stenson, May God continue to strengthen you doing this time of sorrow. I pray that the family continue to pray that through Dernell death something possitive come out of it. I don't know this family but I heard about you through the news and My heart is as heavy as yours to have such a promising young man taken away at such a young age but as long as God is in your life he will comfort you all and I believe God is in your lives because of the Ministers in the family. Be strong in the power of his might and know that God's grace & mercies is with you.

My sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. Dernell Stenson. I pray that God bring your peace and comfort through this most difficult time. Even though I don't know the family personally anytime something happens to a hometown person you can't help but to feel a sense of closeness. Be blessed and know that God don't put anything on us more than we can bear.
