“I stood on the banks of Jordan one day; I had to see the ships go sailing over… stood on the banks of Jordan to see that ship sail by”. -Reverend James Cleveland. These words will always have a special meaning in my heart as I celebrate the lives of my mother and father. Ten years ago I watched that ship carry my mother home; February of this year I again found myself on the banks of Jordan to see the ship go sailing by for my father’s homecoming.
I love my father and will miss him very much. Throughout my life he has been such an inspiration to me and my family. Through his love and guidance he encouraged me to go out for football in the 8th grade and later the JROTC program in high school, both changed the course of my life. After my mother passed away, my father would visit my wife Sharon and I in Maryland. Hard to believe he started flying at the age of 70 and really enjoyed it. I feel blessed for the quality time we were able to spend with him in his final days. I take comfort that he has found peace with our heavenly father and that his life was blessed with family and friends who love him. As I listened to their testimonials during his service, I realized just how caring and giving he was and how many sacrifices he made to ensure that so many people had a decent life. I truly felt proud to be his son.
It is so hard to say goodbye to yesterday when memories and faded pictures remind you of days gone by. No matter where I was in the world, I would always call home New Year’s Eve to wish my father a Happy New Year and ask him if he fired his shotgun. A time honored tradition and, like him, it now too belongs to the ages. I know he will continue to watch over his family; we love you and miss you. Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”.

Praise The Lord!
This is my dad and he was a good dad. If you are wondering about about this picture well he was 35years old at the time it was taken. He was 76 years old when the Lord called him home.
He made it known to me that when this time came I was to use this picture so I respectd his wishes. My dad loved Jesus and I believe that he is with The Heavenly Father now. In his last days here he experienced things that caused him to call on the Name of Jesus (Wonderful, Longsuffering, Prince Of Peace, Emmanuel,Everlasting Father). I know that God heard him because of the place Jesus prepared for us when He said Father I thank thee that thou hearest Me (the Son) and I know that thou always heard me even us the children of God. I believe that my dad was a son of God. May he forever rest in the Loving Arms of his Heaveanly Father. Sylvia W. Mercer

This is my dad and he was a good dad. You may noticed that the writing tells you that he was 76. Well this picture was taken when he was 35. This is the picture that he wanted here and I respected his wishes. My dad loved the Lord Jesus and I believe that he is with Him now. He experience things in his last days here that caused him to call on the name of Jesus(Wonderful, Longsuffering, Prince Of Peace, Emmanuel, Everlasting Father). And because I know that Jesus prepared a place for us that is His body that says He heareth us. I believe that The Father heard him when he called. Sylvia W. Mercer
