Gastonia, North Dakota - Frederic Sherman Letts, 84, of Dunedin, FL passed away August 17, 2022. He was born May 15, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Albert Frederic Letts and Lura Ethis Hart Letts. We knew him as Uncle Ric. His friends called him Ric, but he introduced himself as Fred to new people. People didn't realize it, but, once you called him Ric, you were "in". He had a great sense of humor, but he kept it to himself mostly. We think he was most likely quietly chuckling all of his life. He worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service until he retired at the age of 55 after numerous promotions and acknowledgements for a job well done. Ric always had a love for scuba diving, world travel, corvettes, history, horror films, and RV travel all over the continental United States. He spent Thanksgiving with his brother's family every year in Macon, GA and years later in Charlotte. Ric loved figuring things out. Instead of paying someone to fix something, he would rather go buy the needed tool and do it himself. He loved taking things apart and getting them back together in better shape. Twice a year he would spend a week or so with his brother, Ken at his house and complete a long list of jobs and "tinkerings". Ric is survived by his brother, Kenneth Gregory Letts, Sr., of Tiger, GA; sister-in-law, Linda Butler Letts Edwards of Charlotte, NC; niece and nephews; Tara Michele Letts of Asheville, NC; Dr. Dustin Patrick Letts and his wife, Caroline of Gastonia, NC and Kenneth Gregory Letts, Jr., of Wilmington, NC; 6 great-nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends; Pete Seaman and Mark Rosen both of FL. Ric's family would especially like to thank the nurses and doctors at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia for their dedication and service over the last few weeks. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association for dementia research. Condolence messages may be sent online at mcleanfuneral.com.
