We are all going to miss Hal. Since Mona and I have been together he has always been like a father to me. I will never forget his great sense of humor. I don’t know how many times he made me laugh so hard I could hardly catch my breath. I enjoyed our trips to Georgia at Christmas because I knew we were going to have a lot of new Hal stories to tell afterwards.

He was the most generous man that I have ever known. No matter how broke he was, he was always willing to give to other people. He sometimes tried to make you think that he was hard and tough, but he was really a soft hearted, gentle, caring man.

Hal can be proud that he brightened the lives of a lot of people and made the world a better place by being who he was. I am a better person for having him in my life. Love, Randy

Daddy, we're going to miss you a lot. You were so good to us all. You brought us up to know right from wrong and to always do the right thing. We always knew how much you loved us, and hope you knew we loved you and respected you as the wonderful daddy and granddaddy you were. Things will never be the same without you, but you will always be in my heart so much that I can hardly believe there's room for anyone else. We looked forward to Christmas and summer time in Ideal, and knew we would go home with sore stomach muscles from laughing at you and your stories. I'm sure the angels are laughing right now at something you've said or done. You were so sweet and generous; no one can ever replace you. I hope that crown of stars isn't too heavy for you, and we will meet again some day. I love you, Mona

There will never be another person on this earth like my granddaddy Hal. He had an amazing ability to make anyone around him laugh. I don't know how many times we'd leave the grocery store cracking up at his conversations with the cashier or laughing so hard we'd cry at his friendly teasing with employees at the drive-thru windows. He could find a way to make a joke out of anything. What a hilarious story teller he was! He could have every single person in the whole house laughing so hard we were all in tears, falling out of our chairs with our sides aching from the laughter. He took such great pleasure in making his grandchildren happy. I can remember him so many times putting on his boots and hat and asking "Y'all want to ride to town?" He would take all of us grandchildren to Dairy Queen for Peanut Buster Parfaits. Other times he would take us to the service station and let us pick out anything we wanted. He would bring home powdered doughnuts and tons of our favorite candy and ice cream. He loved to see us having fun driving the combine or riding on the go-carts and motorcycles he bought. I have always admired his adventurous personality. There was never a dull moment with Hal around. He was such a blessing to so many people and will be so greatly missed. I love you, Hal!
