John Spicer Obituary

Macon, Georgia - John William Spicer, 87, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022. John was born on September 18, 1934, in Madison, Indiana, to the late William and Cullie Brook Spicer. John was predeceased by his brother, Robert Spicer; and his sister, Norma Witherspoon.
John grew up on a farm in Bartholomew County, Indiana. When he was just six, his father died suddenly, and he lived with his uncle, Othniel Hitch and aunt, Kate Hitch in Indianapolis while his mother joined the wartime work force. John was just 10 when his brother, Robert was killed in World War II.
John met the love of his life, Janice Devening, in Sunday school as a sixth grader. After graduating high school, he joined the Army, and the two were married. He was a paratrooper in the US Army and a Boy's Club director before graduating from Franklin College. John ran a burial vault business before moving from Indiana to Florida to work at Camelot Care Center. He retired in 2002, and John and Janice moved to Macon, Georgia, to be near family.
John was a gentle and kind man, and well loved by friends and family. His passion for water-color painting and his love for his family, especially his great-grandchildren, with whom he spent many hours, filled his last years with joy.
John is survived by his wife, Janice Spicer; his brother, James Spicer; his sons; Gregory (Maria) Spicer, David Spicer and Daniel Spicer; his grandchildren; Jason (Jennifer) Spicer, Chloe (Sean) Morris, Logan Spicer and Hannah Spicer; and his great-grandchildren; Connor Morris, Wyatt Morris, Tennessee Morris, Washington Morris and Indiana Day Morris; and many cousins; nieces; and nephews.
The family will hold a Graveside Service July 2, 2022 at Middle Creek Cemetery in Sevier County, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the United Church of Christ Sunshine Music Fund, 1650 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin, FL 34698.
