Joseph Allums Obituary

Joseph F. Allums -DUBLIN - Services for Joseph F. Allums, age 66, will be held 2P.M., Friday, September 5, 2003 at First United Methodist Church of Dublin. Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery. Reverend Jack Key and Reverend Gene Cochran will officiate. Mr. Allums died Tuesday, September 2, 2003. -A native of Dale County, AL and a resident of Dublin for thirty-five years, Mr. Allums was the son of the late Ernest L. Allums. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Textile Engineering. He was married to Alice Welch on August 23, 1957. -Mr. Allums began his career with J.P. Stevens & Co., Inc. in 1960 and held positions of increasing responsibility including Plant Manager of Stevens' Louisville facility and Stevens' Dublin facility. -After leaving J. P. Stevens & Co. in 1984, he continued his career as Plant Manager of Russell Corp. in Alexander City, AL. He later joined Menzel Inc. of Spartanburg, SC as Sales Manager in 1988 and retired in 2001. Mr. Allums was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dublin where he was active with the Youth Ministry and served on the Administrative Board. He was past President of the Hillcrest Elementary School Teachers - Parents Association and was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master of Troop 252 in Louisville, GA and later as a supporter of Troop 68 in Dublin, GA. Mr. Allums was preceded in death by his stepfather, G. M. Woodard. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. -Survivors include wife, Alice W. Allums of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law , Victor A. and Carol Allums of Decatur, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Amy A. and Steve Tribble of Macon; daughter and son-in-law, Lori A. and Wayne Taylor of Dublin; grandchildren, Coleman, Jordan, and Madison Allums of Decatur, GA, Joseph and Jared Tribble of Macon, Emily and Rachel Taylor of Dublin; mother, Cullie P. Woodard of Ozark, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Gwendolyn W. and Tommy Thompson of Skipperville, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Rhoda and Sonny Kerr of Auburn, AL; many other close family members and friends. -Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday 9/4/2003 at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Dublin, GA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the AFLAC Cancer Center, 1687 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 or to the Ronald McDonald House, 1160 Forsyth Street, Macon, GA 31201. -Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
