Kathy Love Obituary

Dr. Kathy Love, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and Ya-Ya, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at Bridgeway Hospice in Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 69 years old.

Born on March 13, 1956, in Macon, Georgia, Kathy was the cherished daughter of James and Leta Stewart. She grew up surrounded by love, music and plenty of vegetables from the garden alongside her two sisters, Marsha Johnson (married to Billy, son Billy Jr. and daughter Kelly) and Linda Churchwell (married to Glynn, son Chad).

Kathy was a devoted mother to three children: Niki Walden (married to Zack), Nathan Koh (married to Woori), and Stewart Love. She also lovingly embraced her stepson, Chad Hollingsworth and his partner Brooke Walker, as part of her family. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Riley Walden, Elijah Koh, and Elain Koh who brought endless joy, laughter and pride to her life.

She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Ray Hollingsworth, whose love and companionship over their over 30 years together were a constant source of strength, support and happiness. Together they were the proud pet parents of 3 dachshunds over the years: Peanut, Lola and Buddy. Buddy will miss his mom, but he will be a comfort to those who are left behind that loved Kathy.

Kathy believed deeply in the technical college system in Georgia and the positive change it brought to the lives of Georgians and their communities. She began her career in education as an instructor at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, and in 1984, embarked on the start of her journey working for the technical college system. She held various roles starting as an instructor at South Georgia Technical College to ultimately become the President of several of Georgia's technical colleges all while raising her children and pursing her own education, earning both her master's and doctoral degrees. She was an inspiring example of living out one's dreams through hard work and dedication.

Kathy will be remembered for her intellect, strength of character and her love for education. She touched countless lives during her career and gave of herself tirelessly to improve the lives of others. Her fierce spirit, wit, and kind heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a contribution to the Iron Disorders Institute. A celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.

Yesterday

Kathy was my best friend growing up in Macon. She was one of the brightest people I have ever known. She loved her work in education and dedicated her life to it. In fact, at times, it was hard for us to make time to see each other because of her work commitments but I'm sure her instructors and students greatly benefited from her dedication. I will miss our conversations and cherish all of the lifetime memories I have of her. She will truly be missed!

Kathy is the reason I am in Savannah - and for that reason alone I am forever grateful. I learned a lot under her leadership. She is gone far too soon, and my thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. RIP, Dr. Love.

Dr. Love was such an impressive lady. She was extremely smart and always prepared for meetings, regardless of the topic. I first met Dr. Love (I never addressed her as Kathy) at Chatham Day in Atlanta. We were both new to the Savannah area and we ended up in conversation. A few years later in 2012 I was invited to join her board at Savannah Tech. I served the full terms as board member including 2 as its chair. It was a life changing experience for me and I owe her greatly for that opportunity and honor to serve Savannah Technical College, its faculty, administrative staff and especially the students. Thank you Dr. Love.

Dr. Love was always an advocate for me through my various positions at STC and my education journey. She was always straight forward with you and you knew where she stood. I will miss our talks, her laughter and her love for STC and our students. She will be missed!

I really appreciate the time I was afforded to work with Dr. Love. She was one, if not the most, knowledgeable person I have ever knew. I appreciated her straight forwardness in knowing where you stood with her. I am thankful for the opportunity she gave me in taking the next steps in my career. She will be missed.
