Leon Odom Obituary

Leon Terry Odom, Jr.
July 22, 1953 - September 1, 2022
Bonaire, Georgia - U.S. Army Veteran, Leon Terry Odom, Jr., walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the age of 69. He was born in Vidalia, GA on July 22, 1953, the son of Louise Pittman Owens and the late Leon T. Odom, Sr., and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Terry was raised in Reidsville, Georgia and was a graduate of Tattnall County High School. Growing up, he picked tobacco, worked at a local grocery store, swam and fished in the many creeks along the Altamaha, and rode a motorcycle. Terry graduated from North Georgia College having received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. While in college, he was a cadet in the ROTC program and received his commission in the U.S. Army. Terry enlisted in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer in the fall of 1975, just weeks after making Laurie Patterson his bride. He served active duty for a little over five years and was stationed in Hawaii, Texas and Louisiana before continuing his service in the U.S. Army Reserves for several years. Terry simultaneously began a successful career in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base where he enjoyed working for 34 years as a computer information technologist before retiring.
Fascinated with ancestry and DNA, Terry was a member of the Central Georgia Genealogical Society and the CGGS DNA Focus Group. He was a former member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church and an avid Warner Robins Demons Football fan attending as many games as possible. In addition, Terry enjoyed Wednesday lunches with fellow retirees and was a devoted hobbyist who loved Bonsai trees, reading and collecting baseball hats. He could be defined as a globetrotter, as well, having visited Alaska, the Mediterranean, Panama, the Smoky Mountains and the North Georgia Mountains; he especially loved going on cruises. Among all of the successful military and Civil Service careers, organizations and pastimes, Terry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren cheering them on at sporting events and taking them to State parks as often as he could. His family will always remember the special times they shared with Terry over the years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Laurie Patterson Odom of Bonaire; daughters; Jennifer Lewis (Jake) of Statesboro and Holly German (Joey) of Hawkinsville; grandchildren; Cooper Lewis, Caroline Lewis, Liam German, Lincoln German, Presley German and Parker German; sister, Patricia Pitts of Reidsville; and several loving extended family members.
Terry's family will receive friends for Visitation on Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Terry will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Terry to the Wounded Warrior Project Foundation, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate or the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities, https://armhc.org/.
