Dr. Michael Farris Thomas, Sr. -HAZLEHURST - Dr. Michael Farris Thomas, Sr., age 74, of Hazlehurst, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at Pine Pointe Hospice of Central Georgia in Macon after an extended illness. -Dr. Thomas was a native and lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County. He graduated from the Jeff Davis County School System, Georgia Southern College with a B.S. in Education and Major in Science. He graduated from Emory University Dental School in 1964 with a DDS degree. He returned to Hazlehurst and practiced dentistry for 26 years. He was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis Club. He served for several years as Director of the Southeastern Bank. Dr. Thomas was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. In 1995, Dr. Thomas received a heart transplant at Emory University. He loved life, his family, friends, patients, God, traveling, hunting, fishing and laughter. -He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Guinelle Jones Thomas; his son Mike and family, Amy and Michael Farris Thomas, III of Macon and daughter, Marla-Deen Thomas Brooks and family, Steve, William Deen, Stephen Smith and John Thomas Brooks of Atlanta. -Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 2P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. Interment will follow in Hazlehurst City Cemetery. -Dr. Thomas will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. -Visitation will be Saturday, 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. -Contributions in honor of Dr. Thomas may be sent to the American Heart Association and the American Kidney Fund or your local church. -Funeral arrangements for Dr. Michael Farris Thomas, Sr., age 74, of Hazlehurst are under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
