Waycross, Georgia - Nancy Anne Sabin Chapman, 90, of Waycross died Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2022, at Memorial Satilla Health following a short illness.
Mrs. Chapman was born March 31, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Roy Henry Sabin and Nancy Hurst Sabin. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida where she attended local schools and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After high school she attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James (Jim) Allan Chapman; her son, Michael Allan Chapman; her great-grandson, Jerzey Kaeden Bessonette; and her sister, Georgia Sabin Buntyn.
After raising her children, Mrs. Chapman was employed by Macys of Macon in the fine jewelry department for 24 years.
Alongside her love for her family, was her love for her Church. Mrs. Chapman was baptized as a child at Riverside Christian Church in Jacksonville, Florida. When she and her husband moved to Atlanta, Georgia, they joined Peachtree Christian Church. After moving to Macon, Georgia, the First Christian Church became her family's Church for over 50 years. When she and her husband moved to Waycross, they joined First Christian Church of Waycross. Over the years, Mrs. Chapman served as a Deacon, Deacon Chair, C.W.F. President, Board Secretary and was an active member on numerous Church committees. She was also very active in the Waycross First Christian Church's Community Food Pantry.
St. Simons Island was one of Mrs. Chapman's favorite vacation spots. Over the years she and her husband spent many wonderful vacations and holidays with their children and grandchildren on St. Simons Island.
Survivors include three children; Nan Mikell of Homerville, Georgia, Stephen Chapman (Cathy) of Canton, Georgia, and Debra Yonz (Randy) of Waycross, Georgia; eight grandchildren; Emily Leccese (Eric) of Katy, Texas; Erin Bessonette of Homerville, Georgia; Christopher Yonz (Natalie) of St. Mary's, Georgia; Matthew Yonz (Breanna) of Powder Springs, Georgia; Melanie Beavers (Justin) of Canton, Georgia; Shannon Chapman (Brent) of Smyrna, Georgia; Melissa Chapman of Santa Monica, California; Marshall Chapman of Ball Ground, Georgia; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one nephew; and one niece.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (July 14, 2022) at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to local food pantries, Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Georgia or a charity of your choice.
