Samuel A. O'Quinn
September 4, 1922 - December 26, 2020
Warner Robins , Georgia - Samuel Allen O'Quinn passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020. A Funeral Service honoring his life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 2:00PM. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. Immediately following the services, Mr. Oquinn will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery.
Mr. O'Quinn was born on September 4, 1922 in Gadsden, Al. He was the seventh of nine children born to the late Mr. Thomas Osborn and Mrs. Margaret Brown O'Quinn. His family moved to Birmingham, Al. when he was a small child and he was educated in public schools in Birmingham, graduating from Jones Valley High School in 1940. He never missed a day of school in 12 years. Upon graduation, he joined the Army Air Corp., and served in the European Operations during World War II. He was in the 8th Air Force, serving as a Radio Operator in both the B-17 and B-24 planes where he flew 34 missions as a member of the 493/495th Bombardment Group. At the end of World War II, he joined the US Army Air Force and retired in 1966, at Langley AFB, VA as a Senior Master Sergeant after 24 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed with Robins AFB working in Equipment Allowance Branch as an Electronic Technician and as a Unit Supervisor in Material Management, retiring in 1987.
Mr. O'Quinn was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Asbury Sunday School Class, where he held many different offices. He was also a volunteer at the Trinity Food Pantry. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Northside High School and a lifetime member of NHS Booster Club.
Mr. O'Quinn was predeceased by his son, Joseph O'Quinn; his sisters Mary Ella Landrum, Ethel Waits, and Mae Fowler; his brothers , John , Joseph (Joe), Ogle, Gordon, and Brown, all of the Birmingham area. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores Ladd O'Quinn; his daughters Rebecca (John) Gargis of Knoxville TN, and Nancy (Allen) Cooley of Madison, MS; three grandsons, Samuel (Emily) Gargis, Mathew Gargis, and Zachary Cooley; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Fund or the Trinity Food Pantry.
Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
