Sara Cox Obituary
Sara Frances Henderson Cox -KINSTON, NC - Sara Frances Henderson Cox was born December 4, 1915 in Laurens, S.C. She lived in Lumberton, N.C. and attended Woman's College at Greensboro, N.C., graduating in 1936. She taught home economics at Moss Hill and Pink Hill High School and coached girls' basketball. She married Walter Carr Cox on June 8, 1939. They moved to Kinston where Sara became the Lenoir County Home Demonstration Agent while Walter Carr served in World War II. They opened their business, Colonial Frozen Foods, in 1946. She served as bookkeeper until the business closed in 1987. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years and poured hundreds of Plaster of Paris wolf heads for their scarves. She also volunteered in the Girl Scouts, pouring hundreds of horse heads for their bazaars. She was a member of the Kinston chapter of the Eastern Star, the Lenoir County Historical Society, and the Hyde County Historical Society. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for several years. She was an avid shell hunter and sports fisherman and spent many happy hours with Hazel Weaver on Trout Creek in Swansboro, N.C. Sara Frances was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother known affectionately as "Mama Too". - Funeral services will be held 7P.M. Thursday night at Edwards Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Clark officiating and burial will be held 11A.M., Friday at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the home of Alice Croom, 3235 Parkstown Road, LaGrange, N.C. -She is survived by daughters Alice Croom and husband John of LaGrange, N.C., Copie Finch and husband Ernie of Wilmington, N.C., and two sons, Walter Carr Cox and wife Dotty of Warner Robbins, Ga., Harvey Cox and wife Debbie of Waynesville, N.C and a very special family member Lucinda Moseley. Six grandchildren survive her; Becky Dixon and husband Jeff of LaGrange, N.C., Beth Letchworth and husband Mike of LaGrange, N.C., Sarah Yllander and husband Bruce of Byron, Ga., Lydia Cox of Warner Robbins, Ga., William Cox of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Brandon Cox of Waynesville, N.C. and eight great grandchildren, Andrew Croom, Joshua and Allison Dixon all of LaGrange, N.C., Hannah, Rachel, Rose, Reuben, and Dinah Yllander all of Byron, Ga. She is also survived by a sister, Crystal Austin and husband Jimmy of California, a brother, Fick Henderson and wife Jan of Arizona, and sister-in-laws Jane Cox Hood of Kinston and Emily Henderson of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carr Cox, and her brother, James W.
