Shirley Hooper

1935 - 2026

Shirley Jones Hooper of Canton North Carolina, formerly of Macon Georgia, passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born in Buncombe County NC June 1, 1935, to Louise Mann Jones and Loyd Rufus Jones. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy L. Hooper, son, Gregory L. Hooper, his wife, Vallire, granddaughter, Lauren Hooper (Eric), sister, Betty Tatham, niece, Sherry Wells (Robert), nephew, Tom Tatham (Travis), and several great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Becky Ferguson and son, Matt.



Shirley graduated from Canton High School in 1953, and started her career as a medical assistant for four years. She married Jimmy L Hooper June 22, 1957, and moved to Atlanta, Ga. She worked as a medical secretary before moving to Macon, Ga., where she worked for the law firm of Westmoreland, Patterson, and Moseley as a legal secretary and office manager for 34 years. After retirement in 1997, she and Jimmy spent much time at their beloved Canton home for 20 years before moving back permanently in July, 2017.



Throughout her life she was a loving, caring person and enjoyed cooking, decorating her home for all seasons, flower gardening, keeping in touch with friends, especially those in Macon, playing bridge with friends, and entertaining. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Lauren. Shirley cherished her friendship with many friends and especially several special friends. She also enjoyed traveling with Jimmy for business meetings and golf outings and visited many places throughout the country.
