Thelma Burnette Deep, 97, passed away on June 21, 2021. A Celebration of her Life will be Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Dickison officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to The Arc, 4664 Sheraton Drive, Macon, GA 31210 or First Baptist Church, 511 High Place, Macon, GA 31201.
Thelma was born in Macon, Georgia on April 9, 1924 to the late E.D. Burnette and Bessie Bonner Burnette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael A. Deep, brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Anita Burnette.
She attended the First Baptist Church in 1931 and joined in 1938. She has remained an active member since that time, serving in several functions including the Faithful Sunday School, the Grand Chorus, youth activities and other church related activities.
She graduated from Miller High School in June 1942 and became employed with the A.S. Hatcher Company for twelve years. During World War II, she was active in organizations assisting military personnel including religious and social activities. Thelma became an Administrative Assistant at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 14 years and retired in 1990.
She was married to Michael A. Deep for over 68 years, from June 1, 1947 to May 9, 2016.
Thelma was a member of the Macon Women's Club, Cedars Club, Retired Teachers of St. Joseph's, the Keenagers of First Baptist Church, Auxiliary of American Legion Post #3, and a volunteer for the Cherry Blossom Festival.
She is survived by her two sons; Michael A. Deep, Jr., (Sam) of New York, NY, Timothy B. Deep (Patti) of Helena, GA and grandsons; T.J. Deep and John Michael Deep of Helena, GA.
