William Saum Obituary

William A. Saum -MACON - William A. Saum of Macon, Georgia, died on Sunday, August 2. Bill celebrated his 90th birthday in June with his entire family and the 50th anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Evelyn, last year. -He was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and lived in many places during his 48 year career with Kmart, starting in the stockroom and retiring as President of Kmart Apparel Corporation in 1984. He lived in New Canaan, Connecticut for 17 years before moving to Skidaway Island in Savannah for 24 years and then to Macon last year. -After a successful career, Bill volunteered as a tutor to disadvantaged children with the Love Program of the Salvation Army in Savannah and was very active in his church, the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. He served on the church's board of directors, as treasurer of the men's breakfast group, and he established and ran the Memorial Garden for many years; it has been dedicated as the Evelyn and Bill Saum Memorial Garden. Bill was also an avid golfer and reader. -In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his son, Ken, his daughter-in-law, Georgia, their 3 children, Kevin and his wife Kerri, Kristopher and his fiancé Amelie, and Amy and her husband Rob, and great-grandchildren, Justin, Connor, Zoe and True, and son, Greg, his partner Lisa Miller, and Greg's children, Andrea and Brian. -In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Garden Fund of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411. -A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6 at 11 am. I am sorry Bill will no longer be on this earth with you and your family. He was such a good person. I am sure you take comfort in all the wonderful things Bill did for everyone. Bill and I will miss him even more than we have in the past by not seeing the two of you at church.
