William Veal

1950 - 2025

William "Gary" Veal, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many, Gary was known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Born and raised in Macon, GA, he was the son of William Forrest and Adelaide "Teenie" Veal. He graduated from Lanier High School, where he met the love of his life and future wife, J.J. Giddens. Gary later earned his degree from the University of Georgia and proudly served his country through a long and dedicated career with the Department of Defense (Army).

A kind and compassionate family man, Gary raised his daughter, Jodi, and son, Andy, in Lawrenceville, GA, alongside a lively household of beloved pets. After retiring, Gary and J.J. became active members of their golf community in McCormick, SC, before settling in Canton, GA to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Gary found joy in life's simple pleasures and was passionate about cooking, reading, fishing, music, and sports-especially UGA football and Atlanta Braves baseball. Whether he was in the kitchen, behind the grill, or catching a few innings at the ballpark with family and friends, Gary's enthusiasm and love for life were always evident.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, J.J. (Giddens) Veal; daughter, Jodi, of Atlanta, GA; son, Andy, daughter-in-law, Juliet (Marks), and grandchildren, Nathan and Caroline, of Dunwoody, GA. He is also survived by his brothers, Ken Veal, (Karen Sims) of Trinity, NC; Bobby Veal, (Mary Anne Brent) of Advance, NC; Jimmy Veal, (Sharon Cansler) of Canton, GA; and Wayne Veal, (Beth Wingate) of Valdosta, GA. He is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A private family service will be held to honor Gary's life.
