Hambrecht, Allen Foster
MIDDLETON - Allen Foster Hambrecht, of Middleton, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at the age of 73.
Al was born on July 27, 1948, in Madison, Wis. He grew up on the north shore of Lake Mendota as the eldest of two children and attended Middleton High School. In 1971, he married Carol Smeaton, and the couple had two children. In 1977 Carol and Al started designing and printing t-shirts and totes for Madison Farmer's Market. You could find their stand at the top of State Street on Saturday mornings until 2021. Al and Carol traveled the world together, photographing great works of art and beautiful vistas. They shared a passion for the natural world and were committed vegetarians.
Al loved learning and always had a new fact to share or topic to research. He was a dedicated artist, working in many mediums including sculpture, painting, photography, and jewelry. Music filled his life, and he played guitar, bass, and drums. As a lifelong gear head, he could be found tinkering and building motorcycles, dune buggies, motorboats and drones. Many remember learning to water ski or downhill ski from Al, whose enthusiasm was contagious.
Al is survived by his wife, Carol Hambrecht; his daughters, Marijka (Ryan) Engel and Arielle (Jacob); three grandchildren, Desmond, Veronica, and Cameron; and his brother, Dean (Amy) Hambrecht. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Elaine Hambrecht.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Al was a wonderful friend and I enjoyed his thirst for knowledge. It spurred plenty of interesting conversations over the years, as there weren't many things we didn't talk about. I hope Carol, Marijka, Arielle and all of Al's family and friends take comfort in their memories of him.

I remember many good times with Al, either riding motorcycles or just jiving together on the square or in his garage. Carry on and RIP, my friend.
