Peter Hambrecht Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas & Sons Funeral Home - Kaufman from Jun. 5 to Jun. 6, 2025.
Peter Hans Hambrecht, a loving husband, father, & brother passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 26, 2025, at the age of 79, in Mansfield, Texas.

Born in Dexter, Maine as the 4th child of 6 to Antoinette & Gordon Hambrecht. Peter had a wonderful childhood and made lifelong friendships growing up in Dexter. He played football in High School and found his passion for cars young. After graduation, he pursued studies in automotive mechanics at Northern Maine Trade School. Then, Peter married Laurel (Lenfest) Hambrecht, the love of his life & wife of almost 56 years, in 1969. They raised four daughters together. He was a family man & wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. Early in their marriage, Peter and Laurel became Jehovah's Witnesses and remained loyal servants to Jehovah for over 50 years.

Peter's occupations varied. He started out managing a credit department as well as sales and services. His favorite interest was cars, doing body work and restoration. He was a Master Mechanic and later opened his own body/mechanic shop and had a car lot at one point. His most exciting job was spending summers as the owner/operator of The Acadian Whale Watching boat, which he managed and piloted, in Bar Harbor, Maine for several years.

Peter never met a stranger. He loved adventure & travel. He was known for his wonderful storytelling & sense of humor, as well as his generosity & kindness to all, especially those who needed extra help. He was loyal to the people he loved & a caring friend. He loved football, cars and animals- especially his grand-dog Benny and his cat Sweetie Pie.

Peter looked forward to planting his garden every spring and then would generously give away much of his produce, along with salsa, and pickles he had canned himself, with the help of his loving wife Laurel. Tomatoes were his specialty. Peter was also an excellent cook learning this skill from his father, who was a chef. He was from both Maine and Texas. Both are fiercely independent states and he was proud to be from both and raised his daughters the same. He always joked he wasn't born in Texas, but got here as soon as he could. He lived in Texas with his wife for over 40 years. He will be sorely missed in so many ways we have not even realized yet.

Peter is survived by his wife Laurel, daughters, Amanda Austin, Heidi and Elizabeth Hambrecht, Grandchildren Dustin and Kaleb Austin, Cassidy and Elijah Reyes, Isaac and Eli MacDonnell and Great Granddaughter, Lilly Austin. Siblings Elaina Johnson and Philip Hambrecht, many nieces and nephews as well as several childhood best friends Dave Bailey, Jim Hamilton, and Tom Perkins from Maine & Darryl Walker and Charles Pickerell in Texas. Along with too many other close family, friends, and loved ones to mention.

He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings Billy Hambrecht, Kay Larson & Susan Dropkin & his beloved daughter Jennifer (Jeni) Hambrecht.
