Almay Nelson Obituary

Almay Ruth (Jackson) Nelson

September 17, 2025

PRAIRIE DU SAC, WI - Almay entered the joy of heaven on September 17th, 2025, at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her family.

Almay was born on September 13, 1934 in Blanchardville, WI. She is preceded in death by parents Norman and Ethel Jackson, brother Ardell, granddaughter Sara Kippley, nephew Mark Jackson, sisters-in-law Sally Jackson and Judy Jackson, brothers-in-law Wallace Bernards and Ray Goodwin. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert, children David (Teri), Susan, Douglas (Donna), Scott, and Patti (Scott) Kippley, grandchildren Kristi, Matthew, Brian, Jennifer, Nicole, Kevin, Jason and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Mary Jo Jackson, Elaine Bernards (Ed Meline), Doris Goodwin and brother-in-law Kermit (Andrea) Nelson. She had the opportunity to meet her newest great-grandchild, born two days before her passing.

Almay went to Minneapolis Business School and worked at Tandy Leather for a couple of years after high school. She started corresponding with Bob, who was the brother of her roommate Elaine, while he was in the service. They began dating when he returned and married the next year and began a family while Bob was in college at Platteville. The family lived in Minnesota and Illinois before finally moving to Prairie du Sac 51 years ago. She chose to remain a homemaker until her youngest was out of school. After this, she held a variety of jobs, ending as church secretary which she held for ten years.

After retirement, Almay volunteered at the gift shop at the hospital for many years. She was very involved in church activities and had been in the same Bible Study circle for 51 years where she made many lifelong friends. Almay will be missed for her ready smile and great sense of humor. Grandma was always up for a game of cards and other games and loved spending time with family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 6th from 4:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be held Tuesday, October 7th at 11:00 AM preceded by a visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM. Both the visitation and funeral will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St, Prairie du Sac.

Thank you to Almay's caregivers at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. Memorials may be directed to Parkinsons research or St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, hooversonfuneralhomes.com.
