Beverly J. Richgels (Engerman), née Greenfield, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Madison, Wisconsin. Born on October 10, 1932, in Rochelle, Illinois, Beverly lived a long and active life filled with devotion to her family, faith, and community. Beverly was the daughter of Wilbur and Doris (Kehn) Greenfield. The family moved from Rochelle to Arlington, Wisconsin, when Beverly was a child, and she grew up alongside her sisters Joyce, Merrilee, and Wilberta. A graduate of Poynette High School, Beverly’s early years laid the foundation for a life marked by caring, resilience, and deep-rooted values. Beverly J. Born on October 10, 1932, in Rochelle, Illinois, Beverly lived a long and active life filled with devotion to her family, faith, and community. Beverly was the daughter of Wilbur and Doris (Kehn) Greenfield. The family moved from Rochelle to Arlington, Wisconsin, when Beverly was a child, and she grew up alongside her sisters Joyce, Merrilee, and Wilberta. A graduate of Poynette High School, Beverly’s early years laid the foundation for a life marked by caring, resilience, and deep-rooted values. On July 14, 1951, Beverly married LeRoy Richgels. Together, they built a loving home and shared nearly four decades of marriage until LeRoy’s passing on January 12, 1990. Their union was blessed with three children: Thomas (Cheryl) Richgels, Jayne (Larry) Werner, and Jeff (Susie) Richgels. Beverly took great pride in her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to Rebekah (Stephen), Laura (Jeremy), and Betsy (Greg), as well as a great grandmother to eight great-grandsons. Beverly found love again with Ronald Engerman and married him on July 9, 1994. Through this marriage, she embraced Ron’s family as her own: Stuart (Carolyn) Engerman; Beth (John) Kingston; Lynne (Dale) Osterlie; Ann Engerman; and David (Linda Rogalski) Engerman. Her extended family grew to include five granddaughters, two grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and four great-grandsons — each of whom brought joy to her later years. Beverly’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was deeply involved in the Methodist church community. Alongside LeRoy, she was a charter member of Monona United Methodist Church. In later years, she remained active at Asbury Methodist Church in Madison. Her commitment to service and fellowship reflected her generous spirit. After retirement from her career as a secretary, Beverly was an active volunteer with Attic Angels and Asbury Methodist Church. A proud supporter of Wisconsin Badgers sports, Beverly, with LeRoy and Ron, held season tickets for Badgers football and basketball. She also enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards, and attending family events where she offered unwavering support. Those who knew Beverly were fortunate to be part of a life lived with grace and vitality. Her presence brought warmth to every gathering and strength to those around her. A Memorial Service will be held on September 25, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to St. Vincent De Paul or Monona United Methodist Church of Madison. The service will be livestreamed. A celebration of life with refreshments will be held after the service at Great Dane Hilldale from 5-8 p.m.
