Cheryl Holloway Obituary

Cheryl Holloway

July 23, 1940 - Nov. 17, 2023

LODI - A loving daughter, mother, and friend peacefully passed away at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, Wis. Cheryl Dee (Reese) Holloway, 83, went to see Jesus and her family/friends on November 17, 2023.

Cheryl was born on July 23, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was the daughter of Wilfred and Orma Stansberry. While growing up in Moberly, Mo., she met classmates in the schools who have been long-time cherished friends. Cheryl graduated Moberly High School in 1958, and went on to Moberly Junior College (MJC) where she graduated in 1960.

After graduating from MJC, she had several secretarial positions in Moberly, Mo.; Boulder, Colo.; Kansas City, Mo.; Glendale, Calif.; and Raytown, Mo. She retired as City Clerk for the City of Burlingame, Kan. in August 2005, after 20 years of service. Cheryl then moved to Wisconsin to be closer to her daughter.

Cheryl led by example, always put others first, and worked very hard to achieve her goals. She taught her daughter how to be respectful, caring, honest, dependable and most of all, how to walk with Christ. After retirement, she liked to read, play games on her tablet, put puzzles together with her daughter and Briana, and of course, watch college basketball.

Cheryl was married to Robert Holloway in 1963, divorced in 1974, and had one daughter (her favorite daughter), Carri Dynell Holloway (Briana), Lodi, Wis. While married to Robert, she was a proud step-mother to Mark Holloway, Buda, Texas. She is also survived by her dog, Bailey; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Wilfred Stansberry, Jr., Homestead, Calif., Earl Stansberry, Redding, Calif., Ronald Stansberry, Moberly, Mo.; sisters, Dorotha McIntosh, Anaheim, Calif., Muriel Curry, Orrick, Mo.; and a niece, Debra (Curry) Hewitt, Henrietta, Mo.

Being a single mother to Carri was quite a challenge (you know how much if you have met Carri!) so when she needed help straightening her out, her best friends, Marion and Louann Burgess, Tyler, Texas, would step up.

Although we are all saddened by Cheryl's passing, we are comforted in knowing that she is with Jesus and no longer in discomfort or attached to machines.

Cheryl and Carri would like to Thank the staff on third floor East UW Hospital (Madison), and Agrace Hospice (Fitchburg) for making the journey home as peaceful as possible.

A small graveside service will be determined sometime in the Spring at Memorial Park, Moberly, Mo., where she will rejoin her family!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Burlingame Community Library, 122 West Santa Fe Avenue, Burlingame, Kan. 66413, as Cheryl was an avid reader; or to Fire Department Coffee Charitable Foundation (https://www.firedeptcoffee.com/pages/charity) marked "In memory of Cheryl Holloway, Mother of Lt. Carri Holloway, Madison Fire Department, Madison, Wis."

"Thanks for the laughs, hugs, scolding, advice, and love MOM… I'll miss you but see you again!"
