Clifford Kenneth Klundt
March 6, 1945 - July 20, 2024
SUN PRAIRIE - Clifford Kenneth Klundt, age 79, died on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at UW Health-University Hospital in Madison, after an acute stroke and yearlong battle with kidney cancer.
Cliff was born on March 6, 1945, in Baraboo, WI, and was the son of Rudolph and Evelyn (Day) Klundt. He married Gretchen Van Deuren on August 28, 1965, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells. They were happily married for 49 years, until Gretchen's death in 2015. Cliff was a proud Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
His career paths were many. He worked in grocery, managed a PDQ store, and delivered for Hostess Snacks. He later worked for Frito Lay, launching a new cookie line and then for the Borden Snack Co. as an account manager. In his mid-forties, he completely changed careers becoming an insurance agent for Allstate and Humana companies until his retirement. He recently joked, "I worked 20 years selling snack foods to those that didn't need it and 20 years selling insurance to those that did."
He enjoyed eating out and socializing, especially with family on Friday nights. He was the King of lists, order, and looking for a better way to do things. Everything had its place and there was a place for everything. If not, throw it out or donate it. He was never short of an opinion and was the life of the party.
He loved being Grandpa to Ben, Dan, Erik and Anna. No one was a better husband, father, grandfather, or friend. He will be dearly missed by his two children, Shane (Denise) of Hudson, and Suzanne (James) Doolittle of Fall River; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Klundt, and Anna Doolittle; one stepgrandchild, Erik (Renee) Doolittle; brother-in-law, Michael Klubertanz; sister-in-law, Maureen Van Deuren; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lynn Parsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Rudy; wife, Gretchen; in-laws, Lynn and H. Martin Van Deuren, Gregory Van Deuren, Michael Van Deuren, Paula (Van Deuren) Klubertanz and Peter Van Deuren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 229 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Father Vince Brewer presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, following Mass, where a military Honor Guard will be held.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
