Darwin D. Mundt Jr.
January 18, 1965 - February 6, 2026
PRAIRIE DU SAC - Darwin D. Mundt Jr., age 61, of Prairie du Sac, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Prairie du Sac. He was born on January 18, 1965, in Madison, the son of Darwin Sr. and Marcia (Palmer) Mundt.
Darwin graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School in 1983, where he was a proud three sport athlete, playing basketball, football and baseball. His talent and dedication earned him scholarships in several of these sports. He married Adele Hering on August 26, 2000, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Cross Plains, Wis.
Darwin worked as a structural welder, for both McFarland and Skyline before retiring in February 2014. Outside of work, he loved hunting and fishing, bowling, playing euchre, shooting pool and darts, and joining in on horseshoes and softball. If it involved competition or camaraderie, Darwin was all in-he simply loved sports in every form.
He had a deep affection for his dogs, Alex, Molly and Gunner, who were constant companions. He also cherished his time spent at the Harrep farm, a place that brought him joy and connection. One of the greatest honors of his life was his involvement with the SAL and the fire department, organizations that meant the world to him and allowed him to serve his community with pride.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Adele; sons, Jake (Karrisa) Mundt and Justin Mundt; sisters, Tammy Benke, Dena (Rodney) Harrop and Dawn (Rick) Fuller; brother, Michael Mundt; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at ST. MARTIN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2427 Church St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with Pastor Maggie Andersen Peterson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hupp, Nurse Ann and all of the staff at Wisconsin Heights Clinic for the exceptional care they provided for Darwin. Also thank you to the nurses, CNAs, social worker and other staff at Agrace HospiceCare. They were the most caring and gentle people with Dar at the end.
