Douglas Michael Statz, age 67, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the Agrace HospiceCare Inpatient Unit, with loving siblings by his side.

Douglas was born on July 21, 1958, to Raphael George Statz and Coletta Ann (Lucey) Statz. He was raised in the country in Mazomanie, Wisconsin, next door to his grandparents - a setting that shaped his quiet, thoughtful nature.

Douglas graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School and later took college classes at the University of Wisconsin - Madison while working. He was employed as a janitor at UW-Madison, balancing work and education with determination and persistence.

In June of 2025, Douglas was hospitalized and diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. He faced his illness with courage and was cared for with compassion throughout his final months.

Douglas was a kind, gentle, and soft-spoken man whose faith guided his life. He had a close relationship with God, which shaped the way he treated others - with humility, patience, and quiet strength. He enjoyed sailing and tooling around in his Jeep in his younger years. He welcomed any challenge that allowed him to put his problem-solving skills to work - he especially loved to repair discarded computers and small appliances.

Those who knew Douglas remember his enduring smile - sometimes a smirk - that appeared at just the right moment, especially when humor found its way in.

Douglas is survived by his siblings, Rozalyn Fox, Roxann Marshall, Renee (George) Peternell, Gregory (Anne Batson) Statz and Rebecca (Jim) Coulter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael and Coletta Statz, as well as his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to UW Hospital, Solace House, and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care and support.

A private family gathering will be held to honor Douglas’s life. Burial will be in the St. Barnabas Cemetery, Mazomanie. Memorials may be directed to Agrace HospiceCare or Solace House in his memory.
