Patrick Hubert Statz

WAUNAKEE - Patrick Hubert Statz, 93, of Waunakee, joined his heavenly father, and his son, Dale, on December 26, 2025. He was born on March 17, 1932, in the town of Berry, the son of Werner and Rose (Brabender) Statz. He was raised on his parents' dairy farm, instilling a lifelong love of farming. He graduated from Mazomanie high school in 1950.
He was drafted into the US army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He was severely injured during combat and awarded the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the army, Patrick returned to Dane County to work on his older brother, Victor's farm for the next four years. On May 7, 1957, he married the love of his life, Joann Barman. Together, they raised four sons, Andrew, Steve, Brian, and Dale. They preceded to dairy farm from 1957 until their retirement in 1986. Patrick was still able to do plenty of farming after that by helping Eugene Meier, Leon Ripp, and Henry Laufenberg. He also worked as custodian for St. Mary of the Lake parish until 2004. He was a longtime member of the Catholic Knights. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, woodworking, vegetable gardening, and taking trips to Branson.
He is survived by Joann, his wife of 68 years; sons, Andrew (Betty) Statz, of Reedsburg, Steve Statz (Danielle) of Waterloo, and Brian (Amy) Statz, of Waunakee. Patrick is also survived by grandchildren, Michael (Shea) Statz, of Bottineau, N.D., Kurt (Tori) Statz, of Bottineau, N.D., Mindy (Kevin) Swenson, of Reedsburg, and Matthew Statz(Misty), of Portage. He is survived by great grandchildren, Jaxon, Bexley, Coburn, Leni, Channing, and Ridge Statz, Oaklynn Swenson, and Patrick. He's also survived by siblings, Roman (Bea) Statz, Herbert (Eileen) Statz, Clara Fairfax, Esther (Gerry) Flakas, Bernard Statz( Shirley), Lloyd (Terry) Statz, Therese (Michael) Vezeridis, Rosie (George) Schlichting, and Dennis (Bonnie) Statz. Patrick is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sue Statz, and a brother-in-law, John Lutz.
Patrick was preceded in death by his son, Dale, his parents, Werner and Rose, his parents in-law, Joseph and Theresa (Ripp) Barman, siblings Victor, Felix, and Frank, In-laws Robert (Doris) Barman, Alfred Barman, Joseph (Mary) Barman Jr., Rosemary (nee Barman) Statz, Sr. Theresa Barman, Antoinette Lutz, Larry Fairfax, Joyce Statz and Regina Statz. He was also preceded in death by nephews Mark and Leon Statz, Mike and Daniel Barman, Robert Barman Jr. and niece Diane Statz.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Westport on January 7, 2026 at 11 a.m.
Visitations will be at the Winn Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee on January 6, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on January 7, 2026 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials to the family will be donated to various charities of their choosing.
