David Charles Mandel

BARABOO - David Charles Mandel, 76, born in Port Arthur TX, son of Morton Mandel and Grace Moskowitz Mandel, died quietly on October 10, 2023, in Baraboo, WI.
He received his BA from Brandeis University and MFA from the University of Nebraska. As an iconographer and artist, he was for many years the Director of Exhibits at the Wisconsin State Historical Society Museum before moving to New Mexico as curator of the Hubbard Museum of the American West & Tularosa Basin Gallery of Photography and to photograph natural areas and to take peaceful walks in the mountains. He had numerous gallery showings of his own photography.
He is survived by his adult children: Alison (Sierra), Saul, Natan (Jessica); along with his brother, Jay (Susan) Mandel of Houston; his partner, Adele Karolik; and former wife, Cher Mandel Diamond; grandchildren, and a niece and a nephew.
A funeral was held at Beth Israel Center with burial at The Natural Path Sanctuary. Donations may be made in his memory to the NY City Center for Jewish History, Alzheimer's Association of Dane County, Chabad of Madison or Beth Israel Center of Madison.
