BRADENTON, Fla. - It is with great sadness that we share the passing of David C. Thompson of Bradenton, Fla., on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

David was born in Mount Horeb, Wis., in 1945, the son of Glenn and Barbara Thompson. He graduated from Waukesha High School in 1963, he earned a business degree from Northwestern University in 1967 and earned a master's degree from Webster University in 1999.

David built a distinguished career in the soybean processing industry where he held numerous leadership roles. Most notably, he served as President and CEO of Garnac Grain Company, earning the respect of colleagues across the industry. He was also a valued board member of the Chicago Board of Trade, where his insight, integrity, and steady leadership left a lasting impression.

After retiring to Bradenton, Fla., in 2009, David remained active and engaged. He pursued real estate investments and continued to build meaningful relationships in the community. A lifelong lover of the water, David found great joy in boating, fishing, and all things nautical, whether a walk on the beach or an extensive journey through the Great Lakes. He embraced every opportunity for adventure - whether skiing, discovering new travel destinations, or simply spending a day on the water.

David was known for his generous spirit and unwavering support for those around him. He cared deeply for his family and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Throughout his life, he shared his home with beloved pets, reflecting his warm and nurturing nature.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Betty McNaught Thompson; his two sons, Kevin Thompson and grandson, Blake Thompson of Bradenton, Fla.; and Tim (Andi) Thompson and grandson, Nik Jarvi and granddaughter, Connor "Coco" Thompson of Brentwood, Tenn. He is further survived by his brother, Jim (Georgia) Thompson of Minnetonka, Minn. David was predeceased by his parents; and first wife, Brigitte M.C. Thompson.

David will be laid to rest in the family plot in Mount Horeb, Wis. A memorial service will be held at MOUNT HOREB EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, Wis., at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
