David C. Zimmermann

MADISON - David C. Zimmermann, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024. He was born on Jan. 14, 1953, in Beaver Dam, the son of Gerhard and Ruth (Boye) Zimmermann.
David graduated from Beaver Dam High School and received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from UW-Madison. He was united in marriage to Ruby (Handojo) Zimmermann on Oct. 30, 1992, in Madison. He worked with the Department of Health and Human Services and later transitioned to the Department of Administration as an Oracle Database Administrator.
David's family was his world and he cherished the time spent with them. He loved golfing with his son and was very good at chess, winning a championship in high school. He enjoyed traveling to state and national parks, and overseas with family, especially to Hong Kong and England. David was an avid reader and his absolute favorite author was Charles Dickens. He loved books, stuffed animals, and collecting Christmas ornaments acquired during his travels.
David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ruby; son, Mark Zimmermann; daughter, Sarah Zimmermann; brothers, Daniel (Merian) Zimmermann and Marshall (Kathy) Zimmermann; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Winyan) Handojo and Nefo (Jena) Handojo; sister-in-law, Sandra Handojo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Ruth; sister, Ruth Ann Zimmermann; brother, Sidney Zimmermann; and parents-in-law, Kosmas and Elisabeth Handojo.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, with liturgy and a time of remembrance service at 12 noon. A private family burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
Memorial contributions may be made in David's name to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison, or a charity of donor's choice.
