Dennis E. Gunderson
Dennis E. Gunderson was born in 1936 in Madison, the second son of Gordon and Luella Gunderson. He passed away at Harvest Guest Home in Richland Center on June 4, 2024.
Dennis grew up in Madison and graduated from West High School in 1954. He continued his education at UW Madison and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
His first employment was at Convair Aircraft in San Diego, CA. He went on to the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit where he also completed an MS degree in Automotive Engineering. He then found a more stimulating job at Research and Development Labs at Fort Belvoir where he worked with night vision image technology. He also received an MS degree in Computer Aided Design. For three years he taught at UW Stout in Menomonie. The last fifteen years of his career he worked as a research engineer at Forest Products Lab in Madison. He retired and started his own company designing, developing and manufacturing test equipment for the paper industry. Dennis had 15 US patents and received many awards for technological excellence in research and development of new products.
In his free time Dennis loved to work with carpentry. He was also very interested in genealogy, especially his own background from Norway and Sweden.
Survivors are his wife, Inger; his brother, Charles (Elaine); his children: Eric (Cathy), Hagen (Suzy), Dana (Bill), Karin, and Kelda (Dave). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and many friends.
A special thank you to the nursing staff for their loving care.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer.

I worked with Dennis at the Army Night Vision Laboratory in the 1960´s. I also came from Wisconsin. He was a super boss and fellow Scandinavian.
