Edward J. Prendergast

August 5, 1947 - November 13, 2024

MADISON - Edward J. Prendergast, MD, 77 of Madison, WI, passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 13, 2024.

Ed was born in St. Louis, MO on August 5, 1947, the son of Francis and Loretta (Colvin) Prendergast.

Ed graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis, MO in 1965. He graduated from Washington University, St. Louis with a BA in Psychology in 1969. He attended medical school at University of Chicago and received his MD in 1973. His postgraduate medical residencies took him to University of Wisconsin, Marshfield Clinic, and Montefiore Hospital New York City. He achieved Board certifications in Internal Medicine, 1977, Hematology, 1980, and Oncology, 1982. In 1971, he married Corinne M. Heath, MA. They had a son, Eric H. Prendergast, PhD, born in 1985. Ed worked as an assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin, 1980-1982, and was a Partner at Dean Medical Center (now SSM Health) in the Department of Hematology/Oncology, 1982-2014. After retirement, Ed pursued his interest in bicycling, with participation in races in Wisconsin, Illinois, and the Wisconsin Senior Olympics. A life-long, avid reader, Ed possessed a library of over 3,000 non-fiction titles concentrated in History, Philosophy, Science, and Mathematics.

Ed will be dearly missed by his son, Eric; his son-in-law, Jay Bauer; his sister-in-law, Sandy Stallard; and his nephew, Jake Stallard.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Francis Prendergast; his mother, Loretta Prendergast; and his beloved wife, Corinne Heath. Ed and Corinne treasured their devoted marriage and equal partnership of 47 years. They leave their son Eric and son-in-law Jay in bereavement and deep, undying gratitude to them.
