Flora (Flo) Victoria Smith

August 5, 1923 - October 27, 2024

MADISON Flora (Flo) Victoria Smith, age 101, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024. She was born on August 5, 1923, in Rhode Island to Emile and Emilene (Gerard) Lavigne. She married Richard Leroy Smith in Norwich, CT on March 28, 1945, while "Smitty" was stationed on the USS Plunger during WWII. After the war, they moved to three different cities until they finally decided to settle in Madison. While living in Madison, Flo worked for the University of Wisconsin, Madison as an Account Specialist until her retirement. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society for many years. She made numerous lifelong friends and looked forward to their monthly outings. Flo will be remembered for her compassion, kindness and always having a listening ear. She enjoyed spending time with her family and always making her famous Christmas goodies each year.

Flo is survived by her son, Richard (Cyndee) Smith of Hoschton, GA and daughter, Theresa (Jim) Malm of Madison; five grandchildren, Meghan (Brian) Sabin of Jefferson, GA, Jason Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, Lee (Rose) Malm of Belleville, WI; Matthew (Riley) Malm of Green Bay, WI.; Greg (Denise) Mead; eleven great-grandchildren, DiaLynn, Genevieve, Brayden Sabin, Colten, Marley, Penelope, Nathaniel Smith; Lilly and William Malm; Michael Mead, Jacquelyn (Sam) Freeman; one great-great grandchild, Wesley Feeman.

Flo was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (2002); daughters Karin (1998) and Dia-Linn (1954); grandson, Ian; parents, Emile and Emilene Lavigne; sisters Beatrice (Arthur) Bouthillier and Lucille (Thomas) Choate.

Family burial services will be in May 2025 in Coventry, Rhode Island alongside her husband and two daughters.

The family would like to thank the staff and hospice teams at Heritage Senior Living for their outstanding care and support of Flora.
