Frances Weinstein Obituary

Frances Weinstein

August 2, 1923 - March 6, 2025

Frances (Lipton) Weinstein was born in Burlington, Wis. in 1923, the daughter of Ida and Isaac Lipton.

She excelled in school, enjoyed violin lessons, played with her high school orchestra, participated in the drama and gymnastic clubs. Frances was the valedictorian of her high school graduation class. She went on to study at the University of Wisconsin where she met her husband, Laurence Weinstein. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in social work, she worked in that field until she became a mother. Her greatest joy was in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Frances was devoted to her family, to passing on and preserving Jewish values. She was deeply committed to and an active member of the Madison area Jewish Community: a member and former president of Hadassah, Temple Beth El, the Temple Sisterhood, a regular volunteer at the Hadassah's re-sale store, Collector's Corner. She served on the board of the Madison Jewish Federation and the Board of Visitors of the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies. Frances was a generous supporter of the above mention organizations and the arts. Frances and Laurence enjoyed traveling the world together and went on many exceptional vacations to Europe, Israel, Antarctica, and Africa. She had many friends and admirers and enjoyed forming friendships with people of all generations. Her wide, welcoming smile is remembered by all who knew her.

Frances Lipton Weinstein is survived by her sister, Esther Lange; her children, Daniel Weinstein (Joanne) and Miriam Weinstein; grandchildren, Sasha Kerlow (Eric), Dov Weinstein (Razelle), Vita Murrow (Ethan), and Rhea Weinstein; and her great-grandchildren, Lev and Talia Kerlow, Rushi and Kiri Murrow, Saadiah, Elisha, Amram, and Hadassah Weinstein.

There will be a funeral service today, March 12, at 11 a.m., at Temple Beth El, 2702 Arbor Dr., Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances Weinstein's memory can be made to Temple Beth El, the Madison Jewish Federation, or Hadassah.
