Frank Kirchstein Obituary

Frank Kirchstein

April 6, 1932 - December 10, 2024

Frank Kirchstein Jr., 92, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 6, 1932, in Rock Springs, Wisconsin, to Helen (Callaway) and Frank Kirchstein Sr., Frank led a life filled with entrepreneurial success, community service, dedication to his family, and a passion for exploration.

As a young man, Frank earned the rank of Eagle Scout, exemplifying his commitment to service, leadership, and perseverance, values he carried throughout his life. He later served as a Trustee for the Boy Scouts, continuing his dedication to mentoring future generations. Known for his quick wit and kindness, Frank was a friend to many and a positive influence in every community he touched.

Frank was deeply involved in local government, serving on the Sauk City Village Board, including as Village President during the village's quasquicentennial celebration. He also served on the Sauk County Board, contributing significantly to the growth and well-being of the region he called home for much of his life.

Frank was a devoted husband to Phyllis (Faust) for 67 wonderful years and a proud father to their two children, Lori (Brattset) and Kent. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Kaitlyn (Brattset) Dominguez and Erik Brattset.

Frank began his career working for his parents at Kirchstein Supermarket. Later, he and Phyllis worked side by side at the Toy & Hobby Shop before founding Kirchstein Realty, where their hard work and partnership flourished, developing single-family and multifamily homes. They also shared a love for travel, visiting over 50 countries throughout their lifetime together. London held a special place in their hearts, becoming a favorite destination they returned to often.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis; children, Lori (Dan) Brattset and Kent (Petra) Kirchstein; grandchildren, Erik Brattset and Kaitlyn (Juan) Dominguez; his sister, Betty Ann (McKinney); brother, Jim Kirchstein; and Phyllis's siblings, Keith Faust, Germaine (Faust) Utter, and Duane (Renee) Faust.

The family extends special thanks to Avow Hospice, A Perfect Choice Home Care, Samantha Foy of AvinaCare, and Dr. Sarah Baker of NCH for their excellent care of Frank in his final months.

A memorial service will be held at The First United Church of Christ, 504 Washington Avenue, Sauk City, WI 53583, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 11th.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Frank's memory to one of the following: St. Matthew's Food Pantry of Naples, the Sauk Prairie Library, or the First United Church of Christ in Sauk City.

Frankie (I always called him Frankie) was a wonderful first Cousin. I have many fond memories of time at Aunt Helen´s home in Sauk, with Cousins Frankie, Jimmy, and Bettie Ann. As youngsters I enjoyed summers at the Kirchsteins on Waters Street. Over the adult years we had many reunions and fun birthday parties. Rest in Peace dear Cousin. Condolences to his entire family.

Frank Kirchstein, Jr. was a man of service, to business, public office, and local organizations, devoting his life to his family and community. I have childhood memories of pouring over the toy selection at the Toy Shop, and Uncle Frankie smiling and offering to `see what he could do´ with the price of a toy I longed for but clearly couldn´t afford, as he cheerfully greeted costumers from behind the checkout counter. I fondly remember Uncle Frankie´s kind eyes smiling, just like Grandpa Kirchstein´s, who he resembled in stature and deed, as he served customers at Kirchstein´s Supermarket. Like Grandma and Grandpa, Frank offered a lifetime of service to their community in government and business, continuing in the Kirchstein family tradition.
