STOUGHTON - Gladys M. Thompson, age 95, passed away on Christmas, December 25, 2023, at Skaalen Home.
Gladys was born on August 21, 1928, in Madison to the late Olin and Catherine (King) Berge. Gladys graduated from Madison East High in 1946, and married Robert C. Thompson on January 28, 1950.
Gladys was baptized at First Lutheran Church, Stoughton and was confirmed and married at McFarland Lutheran Church.
Gladys worked as a bookkeeper, key punch operator and secretary for a number of companies. She was always interested in needlework and sewing. After she retired she learned to do Hardanger embroidery and spent many hours creating many pieces of embroidery for friends and family along with altar cloths for churches. She also started quilting and made 165 of baby quilts for the children who were being baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton. She also made lap quilts for her church, friends, family and the Veterans Hospital in Madison.
She and her husband moved to their retirement home in Stoughton, where she then joined Christ Lutheran Church.
Gladys is survived by a sister-in-law, Irene Sherman, McFarland. Special friends: Donna M. Olson, Oregon, Gloria Hayne, Sandra Fleming, and Rita Johnson, Stoughton, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Olin Berge (1935); and her husband Robert C. (2001). Brother-in-laws Willard (Madyln) Thompson, Ralph Sherman Jr. and sister-in-law: Rachel (Normon) Severson and James Hauge.
Services will be held Thursday, January 4, 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Stoughton, with Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following the services, in the church fellowship hall. Gladys will be placed next to her husband at Roselawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services Thursday at church.
Memorials may be made Christ Lutheran Church, Skaalen Retirement Home or an organization of your choice.
