Erickson, Gordon A. "Gordy"
MADISON - Gordon A. "Gordy" Erickson, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, at his home. He was born on March 9, 1930, at his grandparents' farm in York Township, Green County, Wis., the son of Gerhard and Clara (Knudtson) Erickson.
Gordy graduated from Madison East High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Joanne "Jo" Schneider in 1954. Gordy worked as a detective for the City of Madison, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a proud member of the Sons of Norway and the VFW Post No. 1318.
Gordy was an amazing husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He loved to golf, especially with his family, and loved the special times he and his sons and grandsons spent golfing on Father's Day.
Gordy is survived by his wife, Jo; three sons, Mark (Tricia) Erickson, Paul (Karen) Erickson and Steve Erickson; two sisters, Sharon (Leon) Oleston and Charmane (Ed) Silvera; grandchildren, Jami (Brent), Jill (Keith), Alex, TJ, Stacy and Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Shane, Mckenzie, Benson, Sam, Wyatt, Baylie, and Violet. He was preceded in death by parents, Gerhard and Clara Erickson; brother, Francis "Dean" Erickson; sister, Lenore Erickson; and grandson, Travis Stephen Erickson.
A public visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, only 50 people are allowed into the funeral home at one time. Social distancing and face masks will be required. A private funeral service will follow with the Rev. Andy Twiton presiding. A private burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Gordy's name to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Jude's Children Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
