James Hughes Obituary
May 25, 1959 - February 4, 2026
SUN PRAIRIE - James "Jim" Vincent Hughes, age 66, passed away after a diagnosis of esophagus cancer and treatment for it, he entered hospice care through Agrace in October 2025 and entered Heaven on February 4, 2026, at home, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born May 25, 1959, at St. Mary's Hospital to Robert "Bob" and Bernice (Meixelsperger) Hughes. Jim graduated from Sun Prairie HS, class of 1979.
He had an excellent work ethic and worked all his life until his illness prevented it. He was employed at Wisconsin Porcelain in Sun Prairie, Oscar Mayer in Madison, and most recently at Menards in Sun Prairie. He enjoyed following Wisconsin sports, like the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers, and attended many Badger games over the years, including the Rose Bowl in 1994.
Jim was the family Public Relations specialist and even if you didn't want a photo shared with everyone, he made sure everyone saw it, and he never forgot a birthday or anniversary, being sure to remind us of every upcoming celebration or special date. And, if he really liked you, he'd sing Happy Birthday to you whether you wanted him to or not.
Jim is survived by his mother, Bernice Hughes; daughter, Deanna Elizabeth Cork; brother to William "Bill" (Deb) Hughes; sister, Mary (Richard "Rich) Annen; sister, Sharon (Nasser) Hughes; brothers, John Hughes, and Michael "Mike" (Laura) Hughes; and he is survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, an uncle, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Hughes.
If you knew Jim, count yourself lucky, as he was one of the most genuine, sensitive, compassionate people we know.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terr., Sun Prairie with Deacon Joe Stafford presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
We hope Jim has the best seat in the house for this Sunday's Super Bowl 60!
