MADISON - Jim passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2021, at age 75. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin and a Senior Director of Facilities Management for Madison Gas and Electric until he retired in 2012 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed spending time sailing, especially on Lake Michigan, and he loved boating and fishing on the Madison lakes also. Reading was his way to relax, and he liked working on projects like restoring his Model A truck, among many others.

Jim was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was trained for helping disaster victims. Community was important to him, and he volunteered his time to make things better. He had dreams, to have a family, to live on one of the Madison lakes, and later in the country. Peg, his wife of 52 years, and he had two wonderful sons. They lived on the lake for 28 years then moved to the country after retirement, so they fulfilled his dreams together. He loved his family and was always willing to help family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Frank Montgomey; mother, Helen Montgomery; and son, Timothy Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Peg Montgomery; son, Dan Montgomery; and sister, JoAnn Walker.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. Burial services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, directly following the visitation.
