Janet Lindsey Obituary
September 7, 1936 - August 17, 2025
MADISON - Fondly remembered, her family announces the passing of Janet Roberta Lindsey, RN, BA, MBA, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wis. She was born on September 7, 1936, to Katie (Glover) and Dewey Lindsey in Valparaiso, Ind. She was 88.
Janet received her RN with honors from St. Mary's Mercy School of Nursing in Gary, Ind., and her BA from Valparaiso University. Jan was an administrative leader in several large health organizations, including the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago as well as the Charles R. Drew School of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. She received her MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
Jan wed Robert Gustafson, Ph.D., in 1959, who died unexpectedly in 1966. Following his passing, she moved to California, where she remained until 2009, when she moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family. Among her many pets, she was especially fond of her German Shepherd, Cindy. She was a strong leader with a great sense of humor who held her family and friends closely. We will all miss her unique perspectives and generous laugh. Her loving family adored "Auntie Jan."
Janet is survived by her younger brother, David (Mary) Lindsey of Melbourne, Fla.; niece, Barbara (Lyle) McKain; nephew, Curtis (Sharyl) Bush; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and older sister, Carolyn (Norman) Bush.
There will be a memorial service at the OAKWOOD VILLAGE PRAIRIE RIDGE CHAPEL, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, Wis. at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to any Native American charity. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
