John "Jack" Scharer
July 24, 1931 - November 4, 2025
John "Jack" Scharer passed away at Noel Manor on November 4, 2025, at the age of 94.
John was born in Monroe, Wis. on July 24, 1931. In May of 1936 John's parents, James and Clara Scharer moved the family to Verona, Wis. to run the Eagle's Nest Bar and Restaurant. John graduated from Verona High School in 1949. He began his freshman year at U.W. Madison that same year, playing Freshman Basketball and Baseball.
John was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War from 1950-51. John was severely injured and received a Purple Heart.
John and Lois Hanson (high school sweethearts) were married in 1953.
John was employed by American Family Insurance his whole working career. He entered as an underwriter and retired as Vice President of National Development.
John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his family and watching his grandchildren's activities. His leisure interests included, golf, hunting and fishing with his buddies, singing, painting, writing books, (Down at the Nest) and (Say it isn't So), a story of Lois' battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 2014; his parents, James and Clara Scharer; his mother and father-in-law, Otto and Luella Hanson; his sister, Sonia Sue Rotar (Steve); brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Delores Hanson; brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Ardys Dahlk.
Surviving family include, John (Holly) Scharer, Jill (Tom) Straks, five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at St. James Lutheran Church, 427 S Main St, Verona, Wis. with Pastor Jerry Buss officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon. There will be a luncheon served at the church following a military burial at the Verona Cemetery.
