William Mark Caplan, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle. Anchored his family with gentle wisdom, deep compassion, and infinite generosity. Lived a life of mitzvot.
Proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the Washington University School of Medicine. Endocrine Fellow at UCSF and Hammersmith Hospital, London. Revered physician and leader at Kaiser Permanente; Director of Operations, Northern California Region; Director of Clinical Strategy, Care Management Institute. Inspired students as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco; The Ohio State University; the University of Wisconsin; and Northwestern University.
A man of endless curiosity: relished world travel; self-taught scholar of history and archeology; captivated by birding, ballet, and basketball. Equally happy exploring the south of France and the bluffs at Sea Ranch.
Cherished by wife Susan Caplan, children Mac Caplan and Melissa Caplan*, sister Gayle Caplan (George Schumm), niece Hilary Romanoff (Michael Bluto) and nephew Andrew Romanoff (Nicole Romanoff), parents Ben Caplan* and Rose Caplan*, and The Boys of Bexley.
Donations may be made to the University of Wisconsin Foundation, the Melissa R. Caplan Fellowship Fund at the University of Pennsylvania, or a charity of your choice.
